Kid's Beginner Sewing Class

Learn the basics of using a sewing machine, cutting fabrics, and following pattern instructions to make a quick and easy lined tote bag.  Proper pressing will also be discussed.  These foundational skills are the beginning steps to a lifetime of successful sewing projects.  This is a great opportunity for home schoolers looking for a sewing class for their child.

Class will be held in two consecutive weekly, two-hour sessions.

Children ages 8 to 14 are welcome, however, an accompanying adult must also be registered for the class, so this will be a parent/child activity.  This class is for the absolute beginner (someone who has never used a sewing machine before).

The classroom will be equipped with:

  • Sewing machines (no need to lug your machine to class!)
  • Ironing boards and irons
  • Cutting mats
Students will need to supply the following items.  It is highly recommended that students purchase their supplies from High Sewciety Boutique so that we can help you choose the proper fabrics that coordinate beautifully so that you have a finished product that you love. We have also hand selected tools that we feel have beneficial features that will minimize frustration and ensure a positive experience. Class students will receive a 20% discount on all products purchased before class or the day of the class.

  • 1/2 yard of complementary cotton fabric for inner lining

Instructor: Cathy Dale
Instructor Bio: Cathy just loves everything quilting but loves even more teaching others to quilt. Her quilting journey began when a friend asked her to take a beginning quilting class. She never turned backed and found ways to quilt while working full-time outside the home. She took as many classes as she could in her free time. Cathy has been quilting for over 20 years and has learned a few shortcuts over the years to simplify some processes. She has done applique, paper piecing and art quilts, but her love is in traditional and modern quilts. Come learn to quilt with her. Her excitement is contagious!
