Beginner Garment Sewing - Pajama Bottoms

Learn the basics of using a sewing machine, grainline of fabric, laying out a pattern, cutting fabrics, and following a pattern to make a quick and easy pair of pajama pants with pockets, elastic casing waistband or tie, and a machine stitched hem.  Proper seam allowance finishing and pressing will also be discussed.  These foundational skills are the beginning steps to successful garment construction.

Class will be held in three consecutive weekly sessions.  The first session will be a 2-hour session.  The second and third session will be 3-hour sessions.

Children ages 10 and up are welcome, however, an accompanying adult must also be registered for the class with children under the age of 16.

This class is for the absolute beginner (someone who has never used a sewing machine before), or for someone who hasn't sewn in a long time and needs a full refresher course.

Instructor: Jeanette Bussard
Instructor Bio: Jeanette Bussard is a wearable artist and couture fashion designer. She began her journey in sewing in the 4-H program in Anderson, Indiana at the age of eight-years-old. The ten-year 4-H program provided the basic garment-sewing skills that Jeanette has built on for over 40 years. The self-proclaimed "Bound Buttonhole Queen" has furthered her sewing education by pouring over books and magazines, attending countless sewing seminars and conferences, and just plain experimenting on her own. Jeanette has created wearable art ensembles and couture garments that have won her many awards at such competitions as the Pacific International Quilt Festival, Nancy's Notions Creative Jacket Contest, the American Sewing Guild National Sewing Contest, Make It With Wool, and the Illinois and Wisconsin State Fairs. Now retired from accounting, Jeanette looks forward to devoting herself full-time to passing on everything she knows to other sewists, learning from others, and providing the supplies and inspiration necessary to help others reach their creative potential through her new studio and online store, High Sewciety Boutique.
