Rail Fence Quilt for Beginners

Everything first-time quilters need to succeed!  Learn the basics of using a sewing machine, choosing fabrics, cutting fabrics, and following a pattern to make a quick and easy wall hanging or baby quilt.  We will make the Rail Fence Quilt from Alex Anderson's Start Quilting book (purchase required with class registration), which will give you a good foundation for starting on your quilting journey.

Class will be held in four consecutive weekly 3-hour sessions.

Children ages 10 and up are welcome, however, an accompanying adult must also be registered for the class with children under the age of 16.

This class is for the absolute beginner (someone who has never used a sewing machine before), or for someone who hasn't sewn in a long time and needs a full refresher course.

The classroom will be equipped with:

  • Sewing machines (no need to lug your machine to class!)
  • Ironing boards and irons
  • Cutting mats
  • 24" X 6" rulers
  • 9-1/2" X 9-1/2" rulers

Students will need to supply the following items.  It is highly recommended that students purchase their supplies from High Sewciety Boutique so that we can help you choose the proper fabrics that coordinate beautifully so that you have a finished product that you love. We have also hand selected quilting tools that we feel have beneficial features that will minimize frustration and ensure a positive experience.  Fabric selection and tools of the trade will be discussed during the first class.  Students can purchase all of their supplies during the first class if they choose. Class students will receive a 20% discount on all products purchased before class or the day of the class.

Instructor: Cathy Dale
Instructor Bio: Cathy just loves everything quilting but loves even more teaching others to quilt. Her quilting journey began when a friend asked her to take a beginning quilting class. She never turned backed and found ways to quilt while working full-time outside the home. She took as many classes as she could in her free time. Cathy has been quilting for over 20 years and has learned a few shortcuts over the years to simplify some processes. She has done applique, paper piecing and art quilts, but her love is in traditional and modern quilts. Come learn to quilt with her. Her excitement is contagious!
